Classical Portrait Drawing

10-Week Portrait Drawing Course using Pencil and Charcoal

This 10-week course introduces you to drawing the classical portrait in pencil and charcoal, covering all of the technical and aesthetic aspects of portrait drawing, from the structure and anatomy of facial features to achieving likeness and creating expression. Even in our modern world, overflowing with photographic portrait images and 'selfies', the intimacy and aesthetic merits achieved by a simple portrait drawing still seduce us.

Our Classical Portrait Drawing Courses with Adrian Cooke will be held at Wexford Arts Centre, WEXFORD, starting Monday 13 January 2020, and at St. Patrick's Gateway Centre, WATERFORD, starting Tuesday 14 January 2020.

About Adrian Cooke

Drawing Instructor

Coming from a rigorous formal training in classical music - piano and music composition - Adrian is a largely self-taught visual artist. He has selected areas of study and interest, such as the classical atelier method, to inform the style and ethos of his work. He works predominantly in traditional drawing and painting media, regarding these fundamental skills and techniques as essential building blocks in his work. His style, however, would be better described as Abstract Realism. His first exhibition was a series of classical portraits and master copy drawings at 33 The Mall, Waterford, in 2014.
